The Battle of Flowers Foundation is committed to bringing vibrancy and better lives to the peoples and communities of San Antonio and Texas. It directs its resources to support excellence in education, to cultivate patriotic values and good citizenship, and to increase knowledge and appreciation of the extraordinary history, heritage, and culture of Texas.
The Battle of Flowers Foundation was created in 2023 to give back to the community its association volunteers have long served. Building on its mission that values San Antonio and Texas history, and the Association’s legacy of a 134-year-old parade, a 100-year-old oratorical contest, an 89-year-old high school band festival, an essay contest, and a cover art contest, the foundation, among other things, makes grants for educational programs that enhance learning experiences, and funds scholarships in Texas for students who have participated in Battle of Flowers events.
The goal of the Foundation is to make history more than just something you read about in a textbook. We want you to experience it, to see the places where important events happened, and to connect with the stories and people who helped shape our state. Through the Texas History Adventures program, students and educators are given the chance to step outside the classroom and experience learning in a whole new way.
The Foundation sponsors unforgettable field trips to our capital, Austin, to the Bullock Texas History Museum and the State Capitol for seventh graders where they see and touch the real artifacts and documents from Texas history and see where laws are made. For 12th graders, soon to become voters, it may be a trip to the capitol when the legislature is in session. Or it may be a day at the Alamo with interactive experiences that allow students to feel what it was like to be there at its various stages. Experiential learning is funded for our very important educators also.
The Battle of Flowers Foundation believes that learning about history isn’t just important; it’s inspiring. When we visit these places, we won’t just learn facts and dates—we feel the pride that comes from being part of something bigger than ourselves. We see why Texans have always had a spirit of independence, resilience, and community.

The Battle of Flowers Association has long valued the arts. Legions of students remember Fiesta San Antonio when they participated with their band in the Battle of Flowers Parade or Band Festival, or created original artwork for the Battle of Flowers Fiesta Souvenir Program, or wrote an essay about Texas history.
The Foundation funds college scholarships in Texas for students who have participated in these events. This year the Battle of Flowers awarded $10,000 scholarships to each of these 5 exceptional senior high school students who participated in the 2026 Battle of Flowers Band Festival:
Students were chosen on the basis of their leadership, community contributions, and academic excellence in an impartial blind process.
