The Battle of Flowers Foundation was established in 2023 to ensure that the organization is enduring and continuously meeting the needs of the Battle of Flowers, expanding its reach of the to serve the community and sustain its dual mission objects, Texas history and patriotism, as well as its historic activities and programs. Like the 135-year-old Battle of Flowers, it is founded for the love of Texas, and Texans.
The Foundation maintains an Endowment that is invested with third party managers and overseen by its Investment Committee. The Foundation’s goal is to grow the Endowment through fundraising and planned giving of generous donors, and with its to ultimately fund Programs With Impact that will support Texas history learning initiatives, provide education, scholarships and awards, teacher support, preservation of historic sites, recognition and support for military families, serving significant numbers of San Antonians and Texans, and sustaining the Battle of Flowers. The Foundation welcomes the addition of named endowment funds that are merged with the Endowment for management purposes but distributed in accordance with the donors designations. As the Endowment is growing, the Foundation also raises funds for use in the current time to support Programs with Impact. A gift in any amount to a Program Fund will be used in the near term for Board Designated Programs With Impact. You will be recognized annually in the year of the gift.
Texas History Experiences
Outside the classroom learning about Texas history, heritage and culture for students, teachers and others in conjunction with school districts like the Texas Adventures Field Trips and Alamo School Day are underwritten.
Student and Teacher Awards and Scholarships
Scholarships and Awards are supported for students who have participated in Battle of Flowers events, including generous college scholarships made possible for Band Festival participants through the Kathi and John Oppenheimer Scholarship Fund in Appreciation of the Arts.
Teachers play an essential role in the education of our community’s children. The Foundation supports teacher training, especially in Texas history, and fields that provide education and develop skills to empower young Texans as leaders and good citizens. Awards recognizing educator achievements and grants for programs that enhance the expansion of learning of Texas history, heritage and culture are also supported.
Historic Preservation and Restoration
Repair, restoration, and additions to Texas historic structures, especially those that enhance educational opportunities are supported.
Kathryn Mays Johnson Young Texan Leadership and Citizen Education Fund
Young Texans are the future. Grants and support are made for programs that provide mentoring, education and develop skills to empower young Texans as leaders and good citizens. Aspire Awards and Scholarships for young Texans demonstrating achievements in leadership skills, and good citizenship will be made available.
Patriotic Support
Recognition, support and development of patriotic citizens, including members of the military community and their families, and ROTC students are supported.
Battle Of Flowers Association Sustaining Fund
Ensuring the future of the Battle of Flowers Association, supporting its events and programs, and community engagement projects is a priority.
